Dear PBIS Rewards,
Our school doesn’t have ID cards or badges for our students. Can we still use the PBIS Rewards mobile app? How?

Dear No Student IDs Here,
Yes! The PBIS Rewards mobile app makes it easy to recognize students via scannable technology. There are a number of ways you can use the app – just by being creative!
First of all, if you don’t have school ID cards and you want to start using them for your students, we can help. Our new ID Card Wizard will help you design and send the order to print. If, however, you want to create your own badges, you can do that right in our system, too! Just create your badge and print it out in-house – we provide simple layouts that you can use to print on a variety of common labels. The do-it-yourself feature enables you to create a badge for new students as they join your school community.
My School Doesn’t Need ID Cards
School ID cards aren’t always the best option for some schools. While you absolutely can be successful with PBIS in lower grades, very young students may not developmentally be ready to keep track of an ID card.
If you want to begin teaching responsibility for items such as ID cards, start small. Keep school ID cards in a central location in the classroom. Each student picks up their ID at the beginning of the school day and returns it before going home each day.
The print-your-own badge option in PBIS Rewards makes it easy for schools to create scannable labels. Many elementary schools use PBIS Rewards to print out their own badges on labels, which can be affixed to a desk for quick scans. Labels are a great option for upper grades, as well. If your school requires students to carry a planner or Chromebook throughout the day, that’s the perfect place to put a label!
“Teacher, I lost my school ID card!”
It’s not what you want to hear, but it happens.
The good news is, with the ID Card Wizard in PBIS Rewards, you can order a batch of school ID cards for students who have lost theirs. In the interim, you can print off badges for temporary use while you wait for your ID card order to arrive.
To encourage greater responsibility in your students, make replacement IDs available in the school store. When students must spend their points for a new ID, they learn a valuable lesson. After all, spending points on a replacement ID isn’t nearly as much fun as using those points for all the other good stuff you have stocked in your school store!
PBIS Rewards On the Go
School ID cards and printable badges are great for individual acknowledgment, but what about group activities? PBIS Rewards can make that easy, too!
PBIS Rewards’ mobile app is designed to scan a QR code or barcode to award points. If you’re on a field trip, out on the playground, or even in the hallway, you can award points in a matter of seconds – encouraging positive behavior as it occurs.
Did you know you can create a one-page QR code class roster inside PBIS Rewards? This scannable roster allows you to take your behavior expectations on the road during field trips. You can recognize individual students or the entire group without needing to scan individual ID cards or badges.
Scannable class rosters are super easy for subs to use, too. Having the entire class on one page, complete with names, photos, and QR codes can help a sub award points quickly and easily. Even if your school uses ID cards or printed badges, a class roster can further simplify the process of giving points.
Don’t let a lack of school ID cards stop you from using one of the most powerful and convenient PBIS programs around. All it takes is a little bit of creative thinking to find the solution that will work for your school.
Sincerely,
PBIS Rewards
