Garden Elementary School DIGS Positive Behavior
Tulare, California is in the San Joaquin Valley, midway between Fresno and Bakersfield, and is home to the Garden Elementary School Gophers. The school has been a PBIS school for the past eight years and adopted PBIS Rewards in 2020. For the last three years, staff and students alike have been all-in on PBIS Rewards.

100% Buy-In From Staff in PBIS Rewards
Garden Elementary is fully committed to PBIS and PBIS Rewards, with complete buy-in from staff in recognizing students with points for following their DIGS expectations. Because it’s simple to recognize students with a quick scan or click of a button, all staff members can easily acknowledge positive behaviors that mirror school values.
Students aren’t the only ones being recognized, either. Administrators at Garden Elementary instituted a snack cart for teachers to reward them for promoting PBIS. As staff members use the software, they earn recognition and snacks for their participation.
As their PBIS Coordinator, Mary Ann Borges, notes, “Garden Gophers follow ‘See Something, Say Something’ because we DIG good behavior.”
A Fully Online PBIS Store
Before Garden Elementary adopted PBIS Rewards, their PBIS store was managed manually. This took up a great deal of time, both for staff and students. Students often had to wait in line for their purchases and many times missed recess as a result.
PBIS Rewards allows the school to have a fully online PBIS store, with photos of each item available and its point value. Students love to log in on Fun Friday and shop for incentives, including school supplies, jewelry, arts and crafts, decorative items, and toys. They can also purchase intangible incentive events such as extra recess, art party, board games, glow party, chalk the walk, and create a Google slide. This online store is much more successful – students compare it to Amazon!
Digging Into Positive Behavior With PBIS Rewards
Schools that use PBIS Rewards, like Garden Elementary, can more effectively manage their PBIS initiative through PBIS Rewards. As a fully digital management system, PBIS Rewards enables schools to focus on the recognition of positive behaviors, track behavioral trends, and make adjustments to their initiative. Various features within the software allow for the customization of nearly every aspect of a PBIS initiative, including the school store, Check-In/Check-Out, referrals, setting up a house system, and more. It’s easy for staff to use, exciting for students, and provides a wealth of data – making it as simple as reward, track, redeem!
